Have you ever wondered what happens
when robots get together to play poker? In a small
town on the western moon of Jupiter, a group of robots
have been assembling for a weekly poker game for well
over a decade. Many of them never miss this game, as it
is their only opportunity to get out of the house for a
few hours and to really stretch their legs and enjoy a
little bit of metallic bonding. For the most part,
these games are kept light and it is really just a
chance for these robots to drink a little hydraulic
fluid without having to worry about any backlash from
it. Unfortunately, there were times when things got a
little bit out of hand.
On this particular night, many of the robots were quite
ready to have a drink of hydraulic fluid or two. Most
of them worked at the same factory, assembling
parts for hover cars that would be used in mass
transit. All of them had shared the same level of
authority but recently, XR914 had been promoted above
the rest of them. Although he never did really rub it in
their face, tensions seemed to be running rather high
that week. So when the hydraulic fluid began to flow, it
really begin to flow freely.
I'm sure that you have experienced the same thing
yourself. The first shot of hydraulic fluid goes down a
little bit rough but after that, it only serves to
loosen your joints - and then it begins tasting as sweet as
sugar. Nobody really counted the number of shots that were passed around the table
that night. Fortunately all of them had gotten there by means
of a hovercab, so none of them were going to be driving
home at the end of the evening. Unfortunately, several
of them should've stopped about two shots of hydraulic
fluid earlier than what they did.
Mr. Roboto was the first one to really lose it in among the
group of poker players. As a matter of fact, he stood
up to go relieve himself of some access data but he
never made it away from the table. His metallic
appendages began to wobble and before anybody could stop
him, he fell face first onto the poker table. Now,
XR419 had a nice poker table but it was not meant to
handle the 500 pounds of metallic weight that was now
being forced upon it. The table crumbled underneath Mr. Roboto, sparking a round of laughter among the robots
that continued until their circuits ached.
Things continued to deteriorate when XR419 put the
lampshade on his head and began to dance around the
room. Nobody remembers a thing after that, but they do
remember waking up in the morning with their circuit
board aching and promising themselves that they would
never drink that much hydraulic fluid at the poker game
again.
