It was something that happened every
week. A group of six robots gathered together in order
to play a game of poker and enjoy an evening out, away
from their robotic wives. This time, they decided that
it was time to meet a Captain Squeaky's house, an event
that usually triggered some rather interesting times as
far as their poker games were concerned. They had no
idea that this evening was going to end quite the way
that it did.
They had their usual hors d'oeuvres of nuts and bolts
and it was XR914's turn to bring the hooch. He broke out
what seem to be a perfectly normal bottle of hydraulic
fluid and began passing shots around the table. Although
it seemed to taste a little bit strong, nobody really
paid it any mind and just consider that it was the long
week that was talking to them instead of the fluid that
they were pouring down their metallic throats. It didn't
take very many rounds before things begin to get rather
interesting.
None of the robots really remembered exactly when it
happened or what it was that triggered the event that
would change their poker game and the way that they
played it for many years to come. The fact of the matter
is, somewhere in that hydraulic fluid was an ingredient
that brought out something in them which very few people
see in a robotic poker game. As a matter of fact,
Computes, a usually mild-mannered robot who was more
android than anything came up with a great idea that
they should up the anti to a certain extent and begin
playing for items of real value instead of the usual
plastic poker chips that were on the table.
The Terminator 3000 was the first one to throw his
mortgage onto the table, a big mistake as far as the
other poker players were concerned. Although he did not
lose this particular hand, it started a wave of bets
that included everything from their hovercrafts to their
robotic pet dogs. It really began to get out of hand
whenever XR914 lost both his home and his dog in a
single hand. If he would not have lost them to his best
friend, Captain Squeaky, you may never have gotten them
back again.
As it turns out, our robotic friends learned a valuable
lesson in all of this. They decided that they would no
longer allow hydraulic fluid to be served at the games,
especially not if XR419 was the one who was providing it
for the table. In the end, everything was returned to
their respective owners and it was counted as being no
harm, no foul. The fact of the matter is that it took
several weeks before everybody was back to their normal
behavior, yet the game continue to be played on a weekly
basis. |
