It was a fairly quiet day as far as
the robot poker game was concerned. Aside from the
noises of the shuffling of cards and a few random beeps
that were coming from the Terminator 3000, it was pretty
much business as usual. For several months, this team of
ragtag robots have been getting together on a weekly
basis in order to play a game of poker. Unfortunately,
things did not always go as was expected and this week,
it was XR914 that decided he was going to take a walk on
the poker wild side.
It all started whenever Captain squeaky showed up for
the game without having oiled before coming over. It was
difficult enough to concentrate on the game of cards
without him squeaking every time one of his appendages
moved. Even the claws which he used for the special
games were running in form that was true to his name and
the fact that Robocop showed up for this particular game
in order to crash it, made things all that much more
tense.
Perhaps it was the hydraulic fluid talking or maybe it
was the fact that the room was full of cigar smoke but
after a few hands, XR914 decided that it was time for
him to take a walk. He excused himself for hand or two
and headed for the door, not realizing that the other
robots which were in the room were about to make the
game a lot more interesting.
It was during this infamous walk that the other members
of the game decided that they were going to stack the
deck while he was gone in order to take all of the chips
that have been piling up in front of him. It wasn't too
difficult a job, considering the fact that their
combined IQs were well over one million. By the time
that XR914 reentered the room, the stage was set for an
interesting couple of hands.
The first hand that he lost, he just consider that it
was some kind of mathematical anomaly, one of those one
in 1,432,721.62 odds that just comes along once in a
lifetime. The second hand, however, convinced him that
his robotic counterparts were up to no good. It was at
this point that the other robots in the room realized
their mistake and suddenly they remember the fact that
XR914 and had lasers installed just a few weeks earlier.
By the time the smoke cleared, every robot in the room
had felt the heat for at least a few seconds, the chips
were melted into the table and the cards were nothing
more than piles of ash in each of their hands.
Fortunately, XR914 had a good sense of humor and he only
kept the lasers on a low setting. The group decided that
they would give up the game for the day, and meet again
the next week in order to continue their tradition, this
time on the up and up. |
