We are
having a hard time knowing just what to think about the
product being sold as "Jaguar Pokerbot." It certainly
isn't in the same class as the Shanky Technologies poker
bots. But to be fair, nothing else we have seen so far
is either. So it's only right to compare it to other
second-class products (such as the OPI bots and ICM-bot).
To it's
credit, it can play poker post flop (unlike the
ICM bot). However it doesn't play good poker post-flop,
not good enough to win over a long period of time
anyway. There are just too many leaks in it's
programming.
But the
main problem is the lack of user-configurable variables,
which is the same problem that the OPI bots have. There
aren't enough of them. It just isn't reasonable to have
a scrollbar that you slide for aggressiveness and
tightness. You don't know what those settings mean when
it comes to many common (and sometimes difficult) poker
situations. You will find yourself sliding the bars to
different settings over and over again, testing many
different configurations without knowing what they
really mean. Eventually you will just give up because
the thing keeps losing no matter what you do, and you
don't have any way to set it to play the way you want it
to.
At least
with the OPI bots you are the one setting the decisions,
which are based on common poker situations. They don't
have any way to account for position, the number of live
opponents, the number of opponents at the table, whether
a raise occurred before or after you bet, or what
happened on a previous betting round. But you can
develop reasonable profiles for low-stakes Limit games
and you do know the actions you are setting it to take.
The Jaguar
Pokerbot supports Poker Stars, which is really a bad
idea. Use a poker bot there and expect to have your
account frozen. This goes for the OPI bots and ICM bot
as well.
This
product is really overpriced for what it is. We are sure
you will figure that out from the demo however. It's
main appeal will be to treasure hunters, those pathetic
people willing to listen to snake-oil salesmen in search
of a magic ATM machine that you just turn on. Any
serious poker player interested in a bot should make
sure that the product they invest their time and/or
money in can gather enough information to make good
poker decisions, and that the user can use that
information to configure the programming himself.
